Research Interest: Elliot is interested in the motivational, personality, and neural underpinnings of goal pursuit. His current projects utilize techniques from social cognition, social psychology, and neuroscience to investigate the approach-avoidance motivational processes in goal pursuit. Behavioral: Ongoing laboratory studies primarily focus on inhibition of "temptations" or counter-goal responses in a variety of paradigms. fMRI: Current and future projects include basic science on personality correlates of emotion regulation and response inhibition during goal pursuit. Health: Applying basic findings from motivation research to health behavior change using longitudinal and intervention studies. |
